This turned out to be delish! Be warned a couple of the ingredients are fairly expensive. At the end I give my suggestions for trimming some cost!

To make this you’ll need:
Turkey Italian sausage
Jumbo shrimp
Paprika
Smoked Paprika
Saffron
Olive oil
Onion
Green pepper
Garlic
Onion powder
Quinoa
Chicken broth
Diced tomato

  1. I’m not positive but I think safron gives a dish a good color so I think it’s mainly for the color not flavor thought I seen that on cooking shows looks like a nice dish I would alson skip the sausage go with more shrimp yummo

    • There is no way you would use such an expensive ingredient just for color…it really is very aromatic. I’m sure it contributes some way to the flavor. Like I said I would just need to taste it back to back with and without – but its not obvious to me. I can assure you it’s not just for color though.

    • Wikipedia notes the flavors as “hay-like and sweet” – so that’s probably where the sweetness I noted was coming from. If that’s the case then I’d say yes it is indeed needed for the recipe, it was a strong component.

  2. I love the Bud Lite commercial about the Quinoa.. The guy is doing a tailgate cookout at a football game and he say’s the name just like you did.. except his are Queeno burgers… too funny. I use the smoked paprika in my chili recipe that I sent you. I found it can be overdone. It adds a lot of smokey sweetness to anything you use it in. LOOKS GOOD>>>Enjoy
